Welcome the Qld Contingent website for AJ2013, the 23rd Australian Jamboree.
In an Australian Jamboree in excess of 12000 Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Leaders come together for 10 days of non stop action, excitement and adventure. Click me if you want to know more about past Jamborees.
For AJ2013 Scouts from all corners of Australia and overseas will make their way to Maryborough, Qld to "Dream It Live It". For Queensland Scouts this will be 13 days away from Mum & Dad, looking after yourselves and living the good life. Sorry I can't help you with escaping the dishes, they'll be waiting for you at the Jamboree.
Your days will be packed with non-stop fun and adventure from 7am right through to 10pm. If you are in the Duty Patrol your day may even start a little earlier. Some days you will be on site, others you will be off exploring Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the Sunshine Coast.
When it comes to an end you won't want to leave. You don't know how life can go on without seeing your couple of hundred new friends every day. When you're at home you find you wake up on the floor every morning, beds are so over rated. You'll be up before everyone else just so that you can get the washing up water on to boil. Just wait till you see the looks on your families faces when you tell them to sterilise their plates and line up for breakfast!
Application tips
The online applications are available and it is preferred that your application be lodged via this process. A couple of tips to help you with it are:
- Remember your login and password - you can come back and update most of your details
- When entering your Medicare number the last digit is the line number of your name on the card
- When sending in your application don't send the first three information pages.
- Make sure you get all of the approvals signed before sending the application in
Some of the photos that are coming in with applications aren't suitable as an ID photo without a little bit of work. You can update your photo at any time by by logging back into your application and uploading a new one. The following pointers will help ensure your photo doesn't get rejected:
- Follow the guidelines available with the application. It doesn't need to be an official passport photo but it does need to meet the requirements.
- Try using a flash so that the face is illuminated. This helps to prevent a dark face and a dark background. If you are using a flash watch out for 'red eye' and reflections off glasses.
- Using a light background helps you to stand out.
- Look straight towards the cameras and don't pull any silly faces
- Your photo will be resized to120 pixels wide by 140 pixels high. If the photo you upload isn't in the same proportion then you can end up looking rather fat or skinny.
- Staring into a laptop camera renders an interesting perspective with an eerie glow. Maybe using a regular digital camera is not such a bad idea.
